Biography
My name is Diana "Sunny" Sone. I am a journalist in the 2017 graduating class at the University of Texas at Austin. I grew up on the outskirts of Washington, D.C. before moving to Austin in 2008. I got my start writing for my middle school newspaper. In high school, I participated in Academic UIL competitions for News Writing and Feature Writing, reaching state level in both fields and receiving third place in state for News Writing. I received Newspaper Editor of the Year from the Interscholastic League Press Conference, an UIL affiliated journalism awards association. I graduated from Dripping Springs High School in 2013 and began working for The Horn, a UT news website, fall of the same year. I began interning at Austin Monthly August 2014.
I write primarily local Austin issues like transportation, housing and affordability, but I have a wider interest in politics and inequality. I am interested in bridging the gap between day-to-day news and the broader issues Millennials face.
